How My Pup Made Me One Of Those Crazy Dog Ladies You See Around Town

I have always been a big fan of pups and dogs.

I was fortunate enough to have my own dog Roxy, a Pekingese, from the age of twelve. Dad objected to pets in the house, until my Mom, kid-sister, and I, all out-voted him!

He has since become a little teeny bit dog friendly (though he would never admit it!).

I sometimes catch my Dad ‘secretly’ talking to my current 'baby' my salt n pepper miniature menace, Ike –and that always makes me smile!

Taking care of my Pekingese was not easy for me at age 12, the Internet was just getting started back then, and dog-care advice was not readily available except at the distant library.

Eventually, my Pekingese was “adopted” by my Grandpa.

But that was not as harsh as it sounds, you see, Grandpa was staying with us at the time, so he took over her day-to-day care, and I learned everything he knew about dogs.

Even though Roxy has been in heaven more than 20 years, I still shed a tear at the mention of her name and the cherished memories of countless happy hours together.

My first dog made a tremendous impact on my life, and was the beginning of a lifelong passion for dogs and learning as much as I could about their ways and how best to care for them in an urban environment (let’s face it, not too many of us grew up on a farm!)

Ike and Me

My current dog of eleven years, Ike, a salt-and-pepper Miniature Schnauzer has been with me since he was a fur baby.

I remember as if it were yesterday how different he was to Roxy; full of liveliness, buzzing with energy, and always up to mischief whenever I was not looking.

Even now, I can always tell when he has been naughty by the mischievous look he tries to hide under his fluffy Schnauzer eyebrows!

I started this site to keep me out of mischief, to have some fun on the net without having to log into facebook every twenty seconds, and to hopefully make a little pocket money along the way with some ethical canine related affiliate programs you'll see scattered here and there on these pages, and finally, but most importantly, as an homage to these wonderful, intelligent, loyal beasts, our dogs and puppies.

Long may they grace our lives with their unconditional love!
